ora Chinwe is a Nigerian-born, New York-based director and producer. Her work spans fashion campaigns and experimental film, with a developing body of narrative work. Raised in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, Chinwe grew up in a home immersed in film and music. Her mother regularly brought home DVDs from the local movie hawkers on the streets of Port Harcourt and DVDs of R&B and Hip Hop music video hits from her business trips to London. This early repeated exposure sparked an untapped love for visuals; Her love for filmmaking deepened when she discovered filmmakers such as Wes Anderson. Watching Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel and The Royal Tenenbaums ultimately solidified her desire to become a filmmaker.

Chinwe began directing with dance and music videos for artists in the Washington, DC and Maryland area. She was later commissioned to Co-direct a music video featuring Nigerian artists DJ Spinall, Phyno, and Reekado Banks. Her experimental directorial debut shorts, Alkebulan: Viva Africa, and Mkpuru Obi, received recognition at international film festivals and led to her appointment as an official Jury Member for the International Short Film Festival Detmold, Germany. Afterwards, she established a distinct focus in fashion campaigns and narrative filmmaking.

She is the founder of Aurawra, a multidisciplinary creative company focused on developing original campaigns in fashion, narrative film, and art, often rooted in African and Diasporic perspectives.
